LaToya Ball

FOUNDER, & EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

LaToya Ball is a visionary leader and advocate for community development, dedicated to fostering economic empowerment and holistic well-being for families. As the founder of Milestones Elevation Community Development (MECD), she champions initiatives that bridge gaps in access, resources, and opportunities for underrepresented communities to have an equal opportunity to wealth.

Empowering Women & Community Through Innovation & Relationships

LaToya has honed in on the power of relationships and collaborated with her friend and business partner, Tamika Paike of Paige Group Foundation, to establish several impactful community projects:

Community Impact Initiatives
  • Collective Artwork (2022, Busboys DC) – 54 women came together to create one masterpiece that embodies their collective spirit and contributions.

  • Anthology (2023, Amazon Best Seller)Seeing Myself in HERstory, featuring 48 women, offering a safe space for women to read and reflect on the stories that have shaped them.

  • SHE Gala (2023, MGM) – At the 2022 SHE Gala, LaToya announced MECD’s Financial Literacy Program for women in the county, aiming to create a sustainable community where women can express their needs and connect with critical resources.

  • HER Story Infomercial (2024) – Featuring 30 women, celebrating the National Women’s History Month theme of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

  • Coloring Book (2024, Amazon) – A complementary piece to the anthology and community artwork, featuring DEI affirmations from 30 women.

  • Sisterfriends Resource Guide (2024) – Highlighting 50 women-owned businesses to uplift and promote economic empowerment.

  • I Am SHE and SHE is Her: Being Her Energy, Not Her Enemy (2025) – A groundbreaking documentary aligned with Women’s History Month that explores career trauma, workplace experiences, and the resilience of women. This project demonstrates how relationships transform into influence, impact, and healing to empower future generations.

  • The SHE Suite Pantry & Resource Center (2025) – Providing essential resources, financial literacy support, and mentorship to uplift women and families.

  • Annual Christmas and Mother’s Day Charity Events – Sponsoring women with financial blessings to support them during critical times of the year.

Valencia Davis

Board President 

Valencia Davis, known as Mrs. V, has been a mental health professional for more than 20 years. She empowers individuals to discover their purpose, overcome obstacles, and design a life filled with confidence, clarity, and fulfillment. Valencia’s holistic approach combines positive psychology, mindfulness, and goal-setting to help clients unlock their full potential and live authentically. 

Frankie Junior

Director of Philanthropy

As Director of Philanthropy, Frankie is responsible for executing the mission and ensuring programs meet their goals. The word that best defines Frankie’s purpose is BUILDER.

With an extensive background in utilizing tools and resources for groundbreaking community projects, Frankie actively applies his skills and knowledge to initiatives that address critical challenges within his community. Beyond his professional work, he leverages social platforms—whether through podcasting or writing—to present solutions that uplift and honor relationships.

Frankie’s expertise extends beyond community service; he has designed and maintained underground facilities and transformed those same skills into mentoring young engineers, guiding them from their foundation to a complete transformation in life. His passion for giving back stems from the belief that true success is measured by the impact one has on others.

His guiding philosophy is best captured in his favorite quote:

“Seek to serve, and success will come.”

Whether leading engineering teams or volunteering in his community, Frankie is driven by the goal of creating a lasting positive legacy in both his professional and personal life.

Kristina Persaud

 Director of Education & Empowerment

Kristina Daily Persaud is a seasoned criminal defense attorney known for her unwavering commitment to justice and relentless advocacy for her clients. With over fifteen years of experience in the legal field, Kristina has established herself as a formidable presence in both District and County courts.

Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Kristina developed a deep understanding of the complexities of urban life and the challenges individuals face within the legal system. After earning her Juris Doctor from the University of Houston, she began her career as a prosecutor at the Harris County District Attorney’s office, later founding K & L Daily Law where she now defends the rights and liberties of those accused of crimes.  Beyond the courtroom, Kristina is a wife, mother, and Professor at the University of Houston, as well as a dedicated mentor and advocate within her community.

Chairperson (President of the Board) FILLED

  • Acts as the principal leader of the organization.

  • Presides over all Board and Executive Committee meetings.

  • Provides strategic leadership and vision to guide MECD’s programs and partnerships.

  • Oversees board member engagement, program alignment with mission, and policy compliance.

  • Acts as a key spokesperson and liaison for MECD.

  • Signs off on major decisions, contracts, and policy changes with the Vice Chair.

Vice Chairperson (Vice President of the Board)

  • Supports the Chairperson and presides in their absence.

  • Helps maintain board engagement and committee management.

  • Assists in overseeing special initiatives.

  • Acts as a second signatory for final Board decisions.

  • Provides support for board succession planning and member recruitment.

Treasurer – FILLED

  • Manages and oversees the financial affairs of the organization.

  • Provides monthly reports to the Chair & Vice Chair; quarterly, and annual financial reports to the Board.

  • Ensures transparency, proper record-keeping, and compliance with nonprofit accounting standards.

  • Works closely with grant writers and development committees to align funding with program needs.

  • Supports oversight of annual audits and grant compliance.

Preferred Background: Finance, nonprofit accounting, banking, economic development.

Secretary

  • Maintains official records including meeting minutes, board decisions, and corporate documents.

  • Ensures compliance with nonprofit governance documentation requirements.

  • Oversees communication between board members and leadership.

  • Issues meeting notices and prepares agendas in collaboration with the Chair.

Preferred Background: Nonprofit administration, executive assistance, compliance management.

General Board Members

  • Participate in quarterly meetings and committee assignments.

  • Serve as ambassadors for MECD in the community.

  • Support MECD’s mission through fundraising, outreach, and event participation.

  • Lead or participate in committees such as Legislative Affairs (Black Women’s History Month), Economic Empowerment Initiatives (Real Estate, Entrepreneurship), and Relationship Development (Sisterhood Programs).

  • Advocate for strategic partnerships with government, private sector, and philanthropic organizations.

Preferred Background: Education, real estate, health & wellness, public service, community advocacy, entrepreneurship.

    Oversees fundraising strategy, grant applications, donor development, and financial forecasting.

    Builds partnerships with local businesses, nonprofits, churches, and educational institutions to expand MECD’s impact.

    Oversees financial literacy initiatives, real estate education, wellness programs, and relationship-building activities.

Board Member Expectations

  • Attend quarterly board meetings and special events.

  • Serve a one-year renewable term.

  • Maintain an active $159 quarterly,  or $500 annual Board dues contribution. (can be negotiated, please do not let this discourage you. We’d rather have a team member who believes and executes in the vision, over your money)

  • Participate in at least one committee or task force.

  • Provide strategic insight and feedback for organizational growth.

  • Assist in fundraising, grant procurement, or sponsorship development.

  • Represent MECD at community events, public meetings, and networking opportunities.

Advisory Board Roles and Descriptions

The Advisory Board provides strategic advice, thought leadership, and opens doors for partnerships, funding, and growth.
They offer the tie breaking vote on day-to-day operations, with explanation, and participate as a voter for initiatives, and offer critical insight and influence in shaping MECD’s long-term vision.

Advisory Board Responsibilities:

  • Serve as thought partners and advocates for MECD’s mission.

  • Attend monthly advisory meetings with monthly check ins & mandatory bi-annual advisory meetings and key events when available.

  • Offer expertise in leadership, real estate development, financial literacy, nonprofit leadership, education, advocacy, or philanthropy.

  • Assist in opening doors for community partnerships, funding opportunities, or program expansion.

  • Actively promote MECD’s mission across networks.

Advisory Member Requirements:

  • Maintain active $159 quarterly,  or $500 annual Board dues contribution to support operational and program costs.

  • Attend or support at least one major event per year.

  • Participate in advisory focus groups or strategic planning sessions.

  • Term: One-year renewable commitment
