Black Women’s History Month

She Builds. She Leads. She Thrives.

Black Women’s History Month is more than a celebration.
It is a declaration.

Every April, we intentionally honor the legacy, leadership, and lived experiences of Black women. And on April 2nd, we recognize the official day of Black Women’s History Month—a day rooted in purpose, pride, and power.

At MECD, we don’t just acknowledge this moment—we embody it.
This is where we Elevate HER.

Black Women’s History Month was established in 2016 in Atlanta, Georgia by Sha Battle, creating a dedicated space to honor and amplify the voices, stories, and impact of Black women.

Since its inception, this movement has continued to grow—reaching communities across the country and creating intentional opportunities for reflection, recognition, and celebration.

As of 2025, we are proud to serve as sponsors of Black Women’s History Month in Prince George’s County, helping to carry this vision forward through community, programming, and purpose-driven experiences.

But for us, this work didn’t start with sponsorship.
This is our inaugural program—one we were cultivating, celebrating, and building even before we were officially incorporated.

Because honoring Black women has never been an initiative.
It has always been who we are.

Black women have always been the architects of resilience, the carriers of culture, and the foundation of community.

From generations of women who built without recognition, to those now leading, creating, and redefining spaces across every industry—our stories reflect brilliance, strength, and undeniable influence.

Through this annual celebration, MECD creates space to:

  • honor those who came before us
  • uplift those leading today
  • and inspire those who will shape tomorrow

Because when we honor her story, we strengthen our future.

This is more than a theme—it’s a call to action.

To elevate her voice.
To elevate her vision.
To elevate her legacy.

Because when she rises, communities rise with her.

She builds with vision.
She leads with purpose.
She thrives with power.

And through every story told, every space created, and every woman elevated—we continue to shape a future rooted in legacy, excellence, and community.

This is our her-story.
This is our movement.
This is how we Elevate HER.
